Needle-less injector
Patent 5,891,086
Issued: April 6, 1999
Inventor(s): Weston; Terence Edward
Assignee(s): Weston Medical Limited
In a needle-less injector combining an actuator and a medicament cartridge, the actuator includes a housing with a forward portion to which the cartridge is connected. An impact member is mounted within the housing inward of the forward portion so as to be movable toward the forward portion, where it may strike components of the cartridge to effect expulsion of a dose of medicament. A chamber is provided within the housing and is pre-filled with a pressurized gas which is in communication with and exerts a constant force on the impact member, tending to urge it towards the forward portion. Movement of the impact member is prevented by a latch which normally engages the impact member and prevents its forward movement, but is actuable to be moved out of such engagement, permitting movement of the impact member, the cartridge includes a piston which is mounted in the body of the cartridge with an interference fit and is made of a material which is substantially non-resilient when subjected to a slowly applied force, but is highly resilient when subjected to a rapidly applied force.Patent expiration dates:

Spring-Powered dispensing device
Patent 5,957,886
Issued: September 28, 1999
Inventor(s): Weston; Terence Edward
Assignee(s): Weston Medical Limited
A needleless injector is described for dispensing a liquid material, comprising a dispensing member which moves under the force of a spring providing an energy store. A damping arrangement, employing a viscous damping medium such as grease, is used to damp recoil during dispensing.Patent expiration dates:

Spring-powered dispensing device for medical purposes
Patent 6,135,979
Issued: October 24, 2000
Inventor(s): Weston; Terence Edward
Assignee(s): Weston Medical Limited
A dispensing device, such as a needleless injector, comprising a spring, which provides an energy store, and a dispensing member movable, to effect a dispensing, under the force of the spring. A latch has a first position in which it restrains movement of the dispensing member and a second position in which it permits such movement. A trigger is operable by the user for moving the latch from the first position to the second position. A safety mechanism, preferably in the form of an appropriately shaped slot in the dispensing member, is effective before the device has been completely assembled to prevent movement of the latch to the second position.Patent expiration dates:

Device for readying a needle free injector for delivery
Patent 7,776,007
Issued: August 17, 2010
Inventor(s): Schuster; Jeffrey A. & Bridges; Paul Stuart & Gibbins; Graham & Reid; Nicola
Assignee(s): Zogenix, Inc.
A needle-free injector device comprising a latch having a safe position which disables the triggering of the device, and a ready position which restrains movement of a dispensing member but enables triggering and a triggered position which permits movement of the dispensing member is disclosed. An additional safety mechanism blocks the triggering of the device until removed. A cap is provided to maintain the sterility and stability of the drug formulation and is configured such that the cap removal is required prior to placing the device in a ready to trigger state.Patent expiration dates:

Casing
Patent 7,901,385
Issued: March 8, 2011
Inventor(s): Anderson; Gregor John McLennan & Mitchell; John
Assignee(s): Zogenix, Inc.
A casing (50) for an injection device (10) of the type having a safety device which prevents operation of the device (10), incorporating an actuator means (56) by which the safety means of the device (10) can be actuated to allow operation of the device (10). Also a casing (50) for a medicament container having an opening closed prior to use by a break-off tip (135), having relatively moveable first and second casing parts (51, 52), which on relative movement apply a breaking force to the break-off tip (135). A preferred embodiment includes both such features.Patent expiration dates:
